Steve Rolfsrud's Saturday report:
10:00 p.m.; June 9, 2007
Dear family and friends:
Bill continues to do great. He attended four therapy sessions today and claimed that he did well at all of them. He has all of the appearances of being ready to go home any day. He has no other known injuries other than to recover from the very serious head injury from which a full recovery is expected.
As well as Bill did today, Briggs went the other direction (nothwithstanding Uncle Stan's Friday night picture showing her in good spirits while posing with her best friend, Bill).
Electrolytes
Her problems today required us to defer several visitors, an occurrence definitely not on Briggs' wish list. She was just plain miserable, for lack of a better medical term.
However, by late afternoon, with the recommendation of Briggs' mother-in-law to address electrolytes and with Briggs' determination, she rallied. By the time I left tonight, she looked as good as last night--which renews our optimism, although more guardedly. We're learning that it may be two steps forward and two steps back some times, but that there will continue to be steps forward.
Caution
After Briggs rallied in late afternoon, she had several other visitors whose timing was perfect to reinforce her improved spirits.
Some of those who haven't received earlier information may not know that she will need a lengthy convalesence at our home as she has a skull/neck fracture at the occipital condyle, bleed on the tympanic membrane, several fractured ribs, bruised kidney and, most painful at the moment, her six pelvic fractures, in addition to facial lacerations and various bumps and bruises on her head, arms and legs.
The fractures have accompanying muscle and ligament damage that can only repair with time and caution. But we are so thankful that she is recovering.
Thanks again for all of the support.
Steve
