When we read on Erik and Shana's blog that Linda and Ron's new house in Blaine is under construction, we couldn't contain ourselves.
This morning we jumped in the Rendezvous, stopped by The Chicago to pick up Danny, took the 280 detour around the collapsed 35W bridge and arrived at The Lakes on a beautiful, sunny afternoon.
Alas, the windows are in the building and the doors all in place, so we were unable to get inside and stumble around through the 2x4s. Just so we could say we did it, we knocked on the front door. It was locked. No one home. But we were the first to try.
We did climb up the berm in the back of the house and are in absolute agreement with Linda that the back yard is going to be something special. There are already plantings and some trees started, Linda will triple their present effect, no doubt.
We peered through the plastic-covered windows, but it was hard to see much of anything. The rough staircase is in, the kitchen is started and there are arches everywhere. Sheetrock has been taped and mudded.
Satisfied that we had seen everything we could, we went over to cheer up the lonely realtor at the Hans Hagen model homes outpost. With the housing situation being what it is, we fully understood that there is to be no more free coffee and rolls. There were, however, some individually wrapped peppermint lifesavers, help yourself, please.
Danny hadn't seen The Wexford model yet. He gladly toured it, caning his way up and down the stairs. We also went back and visited Linda and Ron's next door neighbor house, which is unsold, but open for inspection. No where near as spacious and nice as L&R's we agreed, but that is to be expected.
We blazed our new trail from Minneapolis to The Lakes development. Pretty simple. Take 35W to Lexington to Main Street, to the Lakes.
It is about 25 miles to downtown, 50 miles to our house.
