Rally at the Wexford

A big ol' Budget Rental Truck made its way down I-35 from Cloquet this sunny Saturday forenoon, escorted by Linda Letnes in her shiny new Prius. The truck contained her husband, her son, and about 900 cubic feet of the flotsam and jetsam of 40 years of married life; everything from a Norwegian violin case to recliner to a glass-topped table and chairs waiting four years to be placed in the perfect location: an octagonal breakfast nook in Minnesota.
Final destination was the newly-closed house at The Lakes in Blaine, just six miles from the new grandchild and 35 miles from her tax accountant.

Kathleen and Stan met the immigrants at 1 p.m., fortified by salads and soups from the nearby Chili's.

The assembled workers immediately dug into the well-packed truck and by 3 p.m. it had been emptied and returned to its owner at 13508 Central Avenue.

We will leave it to others to explain the complex comings and goings of the Letnes family. They will continue to keep a home in Cloquet where the Rev. Ron ministers to a nice parish of Lutherans. He'll be doing the liturgy at services tomorrow morning.

Retired elementary schoolteacher Linda will continue to provide some day care to her granddaughter, Anja, in Circle Pines.

There's yet plenty to be done at the Wexford, but we sensed that today might have been an important day, a watershed, a settling point in a chaotic sequence of events, and we wish them happiness in their new situation and, of course, Peace.

Not everything went perfectly today. Action News photographer Kathleen Ann caught this shot (right) of the portable garage closet falling apart. Linda was grateful it was just the garage closet and not her antique secretary. Click to look closely and you will see Steve Letnes handling important business on his cellphone during the crisis.
Here's an item requiring your immediate attention: Linda and Ron don't like the color on the garage. Too orange, they say, not at all what they had in mind. Stan and Kathleen liked it when they drove up today. What do you think? They already have a promise from the builder to change it, but we wonder why? Linda and Ron's real estate agent, Ken Erickson, stopped by. He's the brother of Paul Erickson who is Shana Letnes Erickson's father-in-law. Paul's the one who recently had the hay loft pulley fall on his head. We understand he continues to heal.
