The elves are busy in Stanta's workshop today, bending wood. The idea is to build an end table that fits snugly around one of the 3-foot-around 80-year-old concrete columns in our condo in the Chicago lofts in Midtown. Stan soaked the wood in the bath tub overnight (are you taking a BATH? came Katie's question), then gently forced it with a series of clamps around a metal guide. Eventually the wood dried into the letter C and compliantly took its place on the edge of this table. Now we are waiting for construction glue to dry, which is similar to watching paint dry. Next we'll cement on some fancy dentil mouldings, faux it and poly it and then place it around the column and put a lamp on it.
Now, when you see it, you won't have to ask "How did you do that?"
(Yes. That is a box of Christmas decorations on the left, waiting to be put out. Despite what you may have heard, the elves can't do everything at once.)
