This is the view from Mary Ann and Wayne Kasich's back yard in International Falls. That's Canada in the distance, off Rainy Lake. Things are a bit cooler in I Falls today, 13 to 25 degrees seems to be the range, which isn't so bad considering what the "Icebox of the Nation" likes to boast about. Stan took this picture while visiting the daily paper there. He used a flash to illuminate the foreground as the late-night June sun set in its northernmost latitude. The days are much shorter there now, at least a half an hour shorter than in the Twin Cities, as I Falls slips easy below the curvature of the earth.
