Two months ago we reported on this blog that Solveig and Bill's California neighbor and dear friend, Steve Doyle, 47, was missing. Steve had just spent a wonderful time vacationing with them in Belize and we reported their good times and hijinks.
Sadly, tonight we report that Steve Doyle's body has been recovered. This note comes from our sister, Solveig:
Dear family and friends,
It is with sadness, and renewed pain, that I tell you that Steve's body was found today. Steve's mother called me from Massachusetts to tell me what the Hayward police told them. That Steve is actually dead is not a shock, not even a surprise, but the stark reality of mentally visualizing his body, after two months' deterioration, being identified by his wallet and car keys, jolts us back to the loss of this fine man.
I am so sorry to tell you this because you are good people who believe in goodness triumphing, as it should, but doesn't always. So be it. Harmony with what must be. Perhaps there will be sordid details, an autopsy, crime investigations, and trials and other such, which we cannot care about.
What we do care is that we keep our best memories alive, and if you have any to share, please send them so that we can share them with others on http://www.stephandoyle.com/. I am ever grateful to Zach [Solveig's son] for providing this venue for keeping alive the child spirit, the essence of joy, that Steve so generously and enthusiastically shared.
Ever grateful for having Steve as a friend, here and in the beyond,
Solveig and Bill
