Pump operators were evacuated two hours before Hurricane Katrina flooded 30,000 Jefferson Parish homes eight years ago. Residents believe that decision caused horrific damage to homes that had never flooded before and they now seek damages through class action. Jurors are hard to find, because most of the jury pool got flooded and is still pissed. The gentleman who decided that 200 pump operators should go home early won't be making a court appearance. He's now in prison in South Carolina for an unrelated felony.
This was not tonight's lead story. The lead story was about a police chief in another parish who was convicted of liberating $2000 from the evidence room and a councilman who didn't like the chief and was charged in a beating but is innocent until proven guilty.
It's different here.
