Fun below zero

Photos by Stan Rolfsrud
Airborne racers, pros and amateurs alike, proved that if you are properly dressed, the wind chill is not a factor.
Don Kiger says the odds are in our favor that we'll
enjoy New Orleans. He has a good friend there…
just down the street from the Archie Mannings and
the James Carvilles.
We stopped by Canterbury Park today and reminded ourselves that you CAN have fun in this dreadful weather. Torrents of snowmobilers, brilliant in their battle dress, flashed past our breakfast window, duking it out on huge snow hills pushed together where the ponies run when the weather is nice enough for decent folks.
We bid farewell to the codgers on the third floor off-track race book, intently focused on winter racing action at the warmer tracks, oblivious to the competition heating up on the frozen hills just outside their nest in the upper reaches of the grandstand. They promised to think of us when they bet The Fairgrounds in New Orleans.
The hunching, crunching walk back to the parking lot was indeed brisk today, but then we thought of the folks at Lambeau Field. It's not so bad here.
(Packers will beat the 49ers today in the coldest game in history, our boys say. Katie picked San Fran, but she's hoping for the Pack.)
