Murdered Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick's family received a huge outpouring of public support this evening. Tomorrow's funeral service will draw thousands, including officers from all over the Midwest.
You may have seen the family spokesman, Mike Brue, (photo at right from KARE 11 coverage) appearing on television the past few days. He's Scott's older half-brother.
When the slain officer was married 25 years ago, Mike was his Best Man.
"In fact," Mike said in a poignant statement to reporters tonight, "Scott was the Better Man."

Mike always was a class act. Stan hired Mike to be the editor of the Chaska Herald in 1981 and came to admire him for his calm professionalism and strength of character. Stan never did meet Mike's brother Scott.

Mike eventually left his Chaska post to become a producer at a Grand Forks television station.

Our thoughts are with the entire family during this difficult time.
