Alexandria's pride, Tom Lehman, won the British Open in 1996 and the Phoenix Open in 2000. The Alexandria Country Club proudly claims him and our father, Erling Rolfsrud, taught him Junior High English. Dad never had much to say about Tom, though Virgil says Dad just thought of him as an average student. Tom golfed barefooted in Alexandria, the legend goes. Don't think Erling ever knew much about Tom after English classes. Course Dad didn't know who Curt Carlson was either when he shared the dais with him at the North Dakota Hostfest. By the way, that's a picture of The PGA pro, Tom Lehman, below, right.
I am not sure where Tom is these days, but I have had the privilege of golfing a couple of rounds recently with his left-handed double, Dick Robertson. He's a member of the foursome that includes our neighbor, Dick Krueger and a Scotsman from the east, Douglas MacKenzie. We Rolfsrud brothers are fortunate to have a threesome of ready and able golfers on tap here in Tucson willing to give us a game.
Most of you know Tom Lehman. Whadda ya think? Is Dick Robertson a close resemblance or what? Dick shoots a great game, mostly in the 70s. Putts well, deadly with the short irons. I got a bunch of photos of him today so you can make up your own minds. He's disappointed in the photograph, above, with his driver. He thinks his arm should be straighter. Maybe so, but the result was good.
Friday we go back to the ranch. We'll soon be joined for more golf by Virgil and Stephen, who today both announced they can't stand it in Minnesota any longer and are heading this way. Hurry, guys. There is talk of a grudge match between we three and Huey, Dewie and Louie. And thanks to Steve's and my handicap, we get points. That's what wagermeister Dick said, anyway.
(Personal note to my everyday left-handed playing partner, Tom Story,
in Shakopee: Tom, while this Robertson fellow may be very impressive and sexy, please remember, that you are still loved, and Mr. Robertson has absolutely no idea of how the blind squirrels find the acorns.)
(Personal note to Sue Krueger: If you want to get a closeup of Dick, you can click on the images and they will enlarge greatly, but perhaps not quite as large as Dick's head did when he collected money from everybody today.)
Earth, Wind and Fire.
