Bill Unplugged

Good news. Bill Siitari was unplugged this afternoon from the myriad life-support and monitoring devices in a post-op center and wheeled upstairs to a room in the trauma center. He is settling in to his new quarters right now.

He's still got a couple of items attached to him, of course, but friends took this move as a very positive sign. Bill is now just two doors down from his wife, Briggs.

We'll await a more defining statement from Steve tonight, but we were able to speak briefly to Briggs today, and while she is in pain and under great difficulty, her spirit was shining through. It was great having her recognize us... and, of course, respond with the gratitude and politeness that make her parents so proud.

Family members continue their vigils on the sixth floor of Regions Hospital. Briggs and Bill won't be doing any photo ops any time soon, but Bill's younger brother Andrew agreed to stand in for Bill today.

So here's Andrew, with the very same sparkle and smile we can't wait to see again from his big brother Bill. His sisters demurred, so St. Paul Katie agreed to join Andrew in what will just have to do as the group photo.

By the way. St. Paul Katie can get lost in St. Paul too. It is, after all, still St. Paul.
