Steve sent this email to the family tonight and said it could be shared on the blog:
Dear family and friends:
Here's what we know at 8:00 on Monday night:
Briggs: Briggs has improved. Her peaks include short sentences, a sense of humor, and some acute awareness (even having the impudence to correct her Dad on what day of the week it is), so that's quite encouraging. Other physical diagnoses have not changed since yesterday and we are awaiting the results of additonal MRIs concerning some remaining issues.
Bill: Bill has improved. They have removed the intubation, mechanical respiration and allowed him to regain conciousness. He is able to respond briefly, with a smile after a lame joke from the father-in-law (he's used to it) and a "thank you" when Nancy told him that he is improving.
Stan says: Thanks for the report, Steve. Many friends are checking in on the Rolfsruds and Friends blog to see about Briggs and Bill so your timely info is most appreciated.
Nancy and Steve and other family members -- Siitaris too -- all seem to be holding up well under the circumstances. So have a good thought for them as well.
A reminder: Cards and letters are welcomed but flowers and latex balloons aren't allowed in the trauma and ICU units.
The family really appreciates your support. Thanks again from them.
