Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie interview the cast of "12 Years A Slave." Our landlord with the small part was in town, but alas, not summoned. Party on, Rob. |
Our landlord, Rob Steinberg, has a small part in the movie, he's the Yankee storekeeper who comes down from the North and rescues Solomon, the free man who has been kidnapped and enslaved in this true story.
We haven't seen the movie yet, so we don't know all the details, other than that it is a compelling saga and difficult to watch. It is directed by Steve McQueen, and in another coincidence, features a young actress who also appears in our musician nephew's movie project, "Boot Camp for Santa Claus."
Much of the movie was shot in Louisiana.
Last week, after getting us acquainted with our quarters and showing us how everything works (or doesn't), Rob left town to join the excitement of the Golden Globes party scene. He's made a phone call from Hollywood to see how we're doing, but that's about it. (We're doing fine, Rob.)
We thought we might catch a glimpse of our landlord this morning when we saw the Today Show promo spot for their interview with the cast of "12 Years," but alas, Rob didn't make the cut. Not even close.
Oh well. Rob will fly back home soon, and when he's back on the ground again we can ask him all about the Golden Globe glitter . . . and the kitchen outlet that's on the fritz.
Hope he can get it fixed before the Oscars.
