A brief note from self-respecting Northern Minnesota Walleye Fisherman Wayne Kasich arrived in our inbox this morning, accompanied by this photograph of him facing off with a huge yellow fish, head and tail intact, looking like it had just flopped onto his plate, all drizzled with a white substance. We can only speculate what the dark gray mass represents. It appears to be garnished with a lime slice.
The retired International Falls publisher is traveling in the Florida Keys with his wife, Mary Ann, visiting their Miami daughter.
Subject line was "What a Fish" and "Hog fish in the Keys" is the only text attached to the photo, with no further explanation. We'll leave it to others to determine if this unusual menu offering is edible and, even if it is, why Wayne would order such a thing in the first place.
This unheralded note is somewhat upsetting. In the years we have known Wayne, he was always a clean, reasonable, sane individual.
