Breaking News: Why are these three men smiling? The one on the left is the new varsity tennis coach for Shakopee High School. His appointment was confirmed by the school board yesterday. The man on the right is the proud father, who, himself, is somewhat of a tennis maven. The man in the center is a Shakopee taxpayer, who is finally certain he'll be getting his dollar's worth of tennis coaching.
Here's the news release issued by the school district:
The Shakopee Public School would like to announce the hiring of Ford Rolfsrud as the Head Boys Tennis Coach. Mr. Rolfsrud was hired following the recent resignation of Darrin Iverson.
Mr. Rolfsrud began his tennis career in Mankato, playing at Mankato East and participating in the Minnesota State High School League state tournament in 1995 and 1996. Following his high school career, Rolfsrud continued his playing at Minnesota State University, Mankato twice earning All-Conference recognition and finishing his career as a Mavericks Captain.
The coaching career of Mr. Rolfsrud began at Mankato East while still in college and has continued ever since. Coach Rolfsrud has previous head coaching experience in Colorado and Wisconsin. In Colorado, Coach Rolfsrud, led Mountain View High School and was named the Conference Coach of the Year in 2002. At Middleton High School, just outside Madison, WI, Coach Rolfsrud led his team to the state tournament in 2005.
Coach Rolfsrud looks forward to the challenges of rebuilding the Sabers tennis program. His initial goals include increasing participation and developing more consistent play throughout the line-up. Mr. Rolfsrud teaches Junior High Math in the Shakopee Schools and served as the boy’s assistant tennis coach this past year.
He is the nephew of Stan and Kathleen Rolfsrud of Shakopee.
