The diminishing to do list

The good thing about lousy weather is that you do get a chance to get caught up on some things, to wit:
1. The Winston Churchill bookshelf, made from a round dining room table found abandoned by our rich neighbors, has been completed and hung on the wall (above). The worst part was the sanding. The best part is finishing.

2. We have purchased and programed a Minneapolis Metro Police/Fire/Air/Marine Scanner for Kathleen's brother, Dan. Please be advised that your security is now being monitored, 24/7, by a caring gentleman on the 10th floor of the Midtown Exchange building in South Minneapolis. 10-4. The folks at Radio Shack guarantee hours of service and we bought the three - year protection plan. It comes with a young programming geek from Shakopee, named Matthew, who promises to help us get the most satisfaction possible from the scanner. We can all rest easy. By the time the Republicans get here this summer, Dan will be able to monitor all their late-night hi-jinks.

3. Getting in and out of the shower can be a dangerous experience if your hip isn't rotating quite like it should. Stan's mother has had her slip-and-fall episodes and she's got plenty of grab bars at Clearwater Suites. Not so at the Midtown Condo. Today we took the Home Depot Gift Card, presented by our friends, Chuck and M'Liss, and invested in a top shelf chrome grab bar.

The key to proper installation is getting a carbide-tipped drill bit to cut through the bath tub tile. Then you plug the holes with plastic #10 anchors. We drilled six holes today (see marks for three of them) screwed in the fasteners and believe Danny ought to be quite secure now. The system is tested and guaranteed for a total of 500 pounds, so that should be more than adequate because, so far as we know, Danny always showers alone.
