Sonoran dog now on 'to do' list

Sosie and Bill, Stan's sister and brother-in-law from California, lately of Hawaii, are coming to Tucson. Years ago, in hopes of encouraging this visit, we christened our front, sunny patio enclosure as "Cafe del Solveig." (We're not kidding. Google it for the full story.) This honor drew some initial interest, but no actual visit. Had we only known what would take.

Today we received an email from the Recently Retired One:
======================
Just got myself out of jury duty, so we plan to leave here on Feb 23, to arrive on Feb 25. Then we play loosely from there.

EXCEPT. I have read that we must have the Sonoran hot dog, available near you at El Guero Canelo at 5201 S. 12th Ave or at 2480 N. Oracle Road. Maybe Steve and Marcy would enjoy the experience, if you aren't already habitual doggers.

Am enjoying your blog.

=======================
Turns out Sosie's Sonoran dog is a robust concoction, here's more:

"Sonoran hot dogs date back as far as the 1960s, but they did not become popular in Tucson until the 1980s, said Maribel Alvarez, a University of Arizona folklorist who has researched the common street food for the Tucson Meet Yourself festival. There are many variations, but in general, all Sonoran dogs are wrapped in bacon, placed in a soft Mexican bun and topped with numerous condiments such as beans, mustard, mayonnaise, onions, tomatoes, cheese and jalapenos. There may be as many as 260 Sonoran hot dog stands in Tucson, Alvarez said." Ibid.

Hey, whatever it takes, Sosie, c'mon down. We'd even add one to the menu at Cafe del Solveig!
