Pickup envy

Stan got to test drive his buddy's brand new Ford F150 this morning. What a ride! It has set back our search for the perfect touring road car by months.

Stan's pal Matt Drees has always had a Ford pickup in the driveway, so when it was finally time for a new one (it's been decades and hundreds of thousands of miles on the old black beauty), Matt went straight to the neighborhood Ford store. It's different there now. Definitely not your Father's Oldsmobile, Matt discovered. He drove away in a top-o-the-line 4x4 crew cab with all the digital goodies. It's got a big GPS map screen, cameras to guide you, seats that do it all, mirrors that pop in and out, satellite radio, comfortable warmed seating for five. Matt now travels with an owner's manual at the ready, consulting it whenever he wants to adjust the steering wheel or the brake pedals or the handy swing-out running boards. Stan found a ton of headroom under the sunroof, (see photo below by Kathleen) something he rarely finds in a conventional sedan. It's a beautiful machine and should give Matt years of satisfaction and gas pumping.
So where do two retired gentlemen go in this huge, powerful vehicle? Where all the truckers go, of course. They go for a big, man-sized breakfast.
