Former mayor of Chanhassen dies

Funeral services were held today for Al Klingelhutz, 91, a Chanhassen farmer who served five years as  the town's mayor. Here's his obituary. Here's an entry posted in his memory book:
-----------------------------------------
Al Klingelhutz
When I moved to Chanhassen in 1972 to be a reporter for the Carver County Sun and then the Chaska Herald, it was my privilege to observe the new mayor guiding his small village forward into the prosperous, beautiful city it has become.
His patient leadership and balanced approach lent stability and civility to countless public hearings and debates, so important to the democratic process, so full of potential for acrimony and division.
Al welcomed me with his huge handshake and welcomed full news coverage and open airings of the difficult public matters entrusted to his care. He was a good steward, working late into many nights for the community he loved.
His honesty, humor and common sense served him, and his community, well.
Fondly remembered by,
