the Jesuit order in 1886 to serve the growing Uptown population. The current church, above, with its distinctive bell tower, was dedicated in 1918. Sensitive golfers lining up putts nearby should beware its occasional gonging, lest they crassly take His Holy Name in vain.
Live oaks bordering the fairways (below) punish wayward golfers with a purgatory of low branches. Jesus warns us of this in Matthew 7:14 when he advises us to always aim down the middle, for "Straight ... and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life."
