Dear Family and Friends:
After several days of forward progress, Briggs spent the better part of today in a rough patch. Her objective symptoms set her back a number of days. But by early evening, symptoms subsided and her spirit and--importantly--her appetite revived.
We are quickly learning the fragile balance when recovering from multiple injuries that include a traumatic brain injury. However, despite the ups and downs, her mother and I have not yet heard one cross word or expression of self-worry, she proving to be the strong one.
And we want to clearly note that despite the traumatic brain injury, there is no evidence of any mental functioning deficit. When her symptoms subside, and even when medicated, she maintains her sense of humor and talks only about progress.
She is the one that makes us laugh. But she is learning along with us the value of caution and the uncertainty of this recovery.
Her attitude is clearly buoyed when we can objectively tell her the number of people checking in to see how they are doing, and keeping them in their thoughts and prayers. For that we are exceedingly thankful.
Hopefully we can get the balance right and have the recovery vectors only go up.
Bill in Buffalo called in today. He continues to do quite well. The red remnant in his one eye that I mentioned yesterday has been cleared by the doctor today.
He continues his outpatient therapy without incident--even though his father-in-law cleared him on the need for that a long time ago! Of course, he's always been way ahead of me anyway, so how would I know.
David Siitari, Bill's dad, sent some additional pictures of the vehicle that may be of interest in understanding the results from the accident.
We thank everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers.
