Stan departed Shakopee today at daybreak, bound for the northern reaches of Canada's Trout Lake, as a volunteer observer attached to the Biological and Environmental Analysis and Research (BEAR) group. Though area lakes are still in the throes of spring breakup, prevailing winds should force sufficient open water between ice formations to insert a float plane without mishap.
